Company History
Abel Engineering was formed in 1986 by The Managing Director, Derek S Glasgow in premises off Leith Walk, Edinburgh.His background was originally as a Marine Engineer in HM Royal Navy at the age of 16 years, serving on the Aircraft Carrier HMS Ark Royal and finally on the Type 21 Frigate HMS Ambuscade, in which he saw active service during the Falklands Campaign of 1982.
The roots of the company were based on carrying out works for The City of Edinburgh Council on a Term Maintenance Contract, which is still in existence today.
Soon after the formation of the company, it was awarded a prestigious Metalwork Contract to manufacture Lighting Standards for The Rose Street Precinct in Edinburgh, which can still be seen today.
The company has always prided itself in Quality and Commitment to Clients and Service second to none.
The company has carried out work for Blue Chip companies such as British Telecom.
Ambition has driven the company to achieve steady growth and found itself working in the Private Sector for the prestigious National Museums of Scotland and National Library of Scotland.
It moved into the Construction Sector following a marketing campaign and has worked with such high profile names as Sir Robert McAlpine Limited and Balfour Beatty Construction Scotland.
The company continues to exceed its own expectations and is always seeking to secure new opportunities in the market.
Health & Safety
Derek S Glasgow, the Managing Director of Abel Engineering Fabrications Limited has recently been awarded The General Certificate from NEBOSH, and shall shortly be progressing towards the Level 4 Diploma Course in 2008.
Health & Safety is a major concern in the industry and enviroment we work in and this has been the concern that has led our Managing Director to concentrate on this aspect of the Company.
